The Swiss Sustainability Challenge empowers young innovators to develop and implement sustainable projects by offering coaching, educational resources, and networking opportunities. Participants gain access to valuable support to advance their initiatives.

The Swiss Sustainability Challenge (SSC) is a competition organized by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) and Pax, dedicated to fostering sustainable development since 2017. Initially focused on students, the SSC now welcomes all young individuals and teams aiming to advance social and environmental sustainability, whether through start-ups or non-profit initiatives. Projects at any stage of development are encouraged to participate.

Support for Participants

Participants benefit from personalized coaching by experienced experts, free access to seminars and workshops, and opportunities to network with other teams. The SSC offers services and benefits valued at approximately CHF 70,000, including CHF 20,000 in prize money awarded to the top three projects. Finalist projects receive five hours of coaching, with the first-place project receiving an additional ten hours.

Program Offerings

  • Seminars, Workshops & Networking: Participants can attend sessions on various topics related to innovation and business foundation to develop their skills. Events are organized to facilitate exchanges and valuable connections with experts and key individuals.
  • Coaching: Tailored coaching sessions are central to the SSC's support, addressing the unique needs of each project.
  • Sustainable Innovation Canvas: To systematically develop their projects, participants are provided with the Sustainable Innovation Canvas, a tool that integrates ecological and social aspects into project planning.
